Orkney Sustainable Energy are project designers and site managers of the Balnamoon wind energy project near Keith in the north-east of Scotland. This turbine is an Enercon E48, rated at 800kW, and the project was constructed in 2009. The site is rated at class 2, with an annual mean wind speed of around 8 m/s, giving a predicted output of 2,500 MWh of electricity into the National Grid. Balnamoon adjoins Aultmore Forest, and is one of Moray Council's preferred wind energy development areas.
The Balnamoon project was developed by the land owners as a diversification project, providing an alternative income to the farm.
